About us
Why a multidisciplinary Centre?
The development of a child can be compared to building a puzzle … when one piece of the puzzle is missing, it makes it impossible to complete the image and the entire end result is affected. A developmental delay or learning difficulty has the exact same effect. A developmental delay snowballs and has a negative effect on other developmental areas resulting in a child that requires the support of numerous therapists to address the specific problem areas.
Research has found that during the period a child receives therapy from more than one therapist, only a few therapist that are involved in this child’s therapy process will communicate. Therapists seldom contact each other regarding the assessment results, therapy goals, the child’s progress and the necessary referrals. The problem areas are thus addressed in isolation, which has a negative effect on the child’s progress. Resulting in longer therapy periods …
At the Family Therapy and Hearing Centre we had a solution …
With more than a decades experience and effective teamwork between the therapists at the Family Therapy Centre, we focus on discussing a child’s assessment results, therapy goals and progress in therapy, which results in faster progress because we address the problem areas holistically.
